These fans and prayer-feathers are made with a lot of attention for detail and ceremony. They are mostly build from wood, feathers, beads and (recycled) leather. The fans usually are made of complete bird-wings. Of course no birds were in no way harmed or killed for the purpose of making these beautiful objects.
The beadwork on the prayer-feathers' handles is done with a technique called "peyote-stitch", wich is a labour-intensive but rewarding way of creating visionary bead-patterns.
